Hi, The problem with commercial software is that the vendor needs to convince people to buy their product. Either the software is really outperforming public domain ones, or not. This is difficult to establish without challenges and Round Robins. Waiting for serious comparisons, be careful to not buy a soap washing more white than white (a french comic said that this more white color would possibly be light grey ;-). Anyway, not responding clearly in mailing list discussions gives some clues about the soap quality : IMHO it is dubious until some clear proof shows that it really washes white. Big congress like IUCr may favour the apparition of many soaps washing whiter than white. Not sure that peer-reviewing an abstract is a big guarantee. Not sure that peer-reviewing is even a guarantee at all. Opinions ? Armel Le Bail - Universite du Maine, Laboratoire des Fluorures, CNRS ESA 6010, Av. O.
