Sorry for the trouble, yes, the file was indeed an HTML page rather than the actual file. That was completely my fault messing up a "Save Link" on Github not pointing to the actual raw file.
The link: http://s3.amazonaws.com/downloads.basho.com/patches/bitcask-2.0-merge-crash/riak_kv_bitcask_backend.beam is an actual beam file now. So sorry for the trouble, and the big goof up from me. -Jared
