I just did the following:

(dizzyd@sigr).(~/tmp)% git clone git://github.com/basho/riak riak.build.test

(dizzyd@sigr).(~/tmp)% cd riak.build.test
(dizzyd@sigr).(~/tmp/riak.build.test)% git checkout riak-1.0.0pre3
(dizzyd@sigr).(~/tmp/riak.build.test)% make
....

and it compiled fine. I am also on 10.7.1 (11B26).
