If you're that deadset against it, just run: sudo apt-get install banshee
or grab Banshee from the Ubuntu Software Center GUI. Done. I have similarly poor experiences with Banshee, with it freezing up forever when trying to read my files, failing to decode metadata that Rhythmbox decodes properly, and constantly dropping out audio; Banshee also doesn't provide plugin interfaces for inserting an element into the pipeline, a functionality that Rhythmbox has had for years. There's no sense in reigniting a music player holy war; it's been re-hashed too many times already. The programs are what they are. Use what you want and don't worry about what's default. Suffice to say that the two sides (people who love Rhythmbox and people who love Banshee) will NEVER be in agreement.
