Rhythmbox is agnostic to the particular file formats of music you have - it uses a system library called GStreamer which can decode many different types of files. Some Linux distributions, such as Fedora, don't include an MP3 decoder due to patent or licensing issues. There's nothing Rhythmbox can do about this - please either contact your Linux distribution or search the Internet for details.
