Here's the HIG bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140592 Also relevant is that some people want to disable the notification icon in Rhythmbox altogether: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317982 In my humble opinion, Rhythmbox should copy Banshee - the notification icon should become a plugin (probably on by default, unlike Banshee?), and there should be a configuration option to control what happens when you close the main window (minimise by default, when the plugin is enabled).
