Thanks for tagging me. So I think whether to keep the backward compatibility or consistency or more strict forward depends on the project's taste and preference. I don't believe there is a "best" answer here. In that perspective, I believe a lot of the committers in this thread have better ideas for spark. I'll accept whatever people agree on - I think that'll be a pretty good solution. We don't have to block on this matter.
