I have packaged this for Debian, along with version 2.0.0 packages for FlightGear. At the moment due to bureaucracy they are sitting around in the mentors area. I no longer use Ubuntu so cant tell you if they work but they work find for me on Debian Sid.
If you are really desperate, you can get the packages (source only) from this site http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor- pkglist?maintainer=cbaines8%40gmail.com . If you have trouble downloading or installing the packages, try asking on the Ubuntu forums for help.
