I am also affected by this bug (for quite some time now actually). I was so fed up with this situation that I decided to do something about it: I created a patch which adds support for password protected keys.
Here it is: http://reviewboard.kde.org/r/6054/ You need to apply this patch to a "trunk" checkout from KDE's Subversion repository.
