It's very strange that empathy is a set as a default gnome IM app. I've just installed a new Ubuntu 10.10 the problem persists. The empathy version 2.32.1 doesn't save contacts and the file ~/.local/share/folks/relationships.ini remains empty. I tried to add them many times and always when I close the app it looses all the contacts.
