#110 works for me too. I have the latest released lucid packages and am not on patched compiz. I don't see the problems regarding partial cursor theme display. Also, I tried to remove the x-cursor-theme config item but compiz used a fallback theme and still did not honor the selected cursor theme. It is weird to have to use superuser permissions to change the user cursor theme.
