Run the "set" and verify DIR_COLORS is set correctly. If not the problem may be with one of you profile files which may be overriding default settings,

All of a sudden, however, neither xterm nor konsole (under kde) can display the colors. I did a :syntax on in the vim editor...to no avail. I've only installed the recommeded rpms that the RHN daemon has prompted me to.
