Chuck, I've been reading this thread, but we're going too fast here I think. There's no point doing an fdisk until we are sure the USB device gets registered. Does it? Does /var/log/messages show anything while you're plugging it in/unplugging it? I believe (apart from other usb modules, the usb mass storage module has to load).
