Almost any ATAPI drive will work.

I just bought (2 weeks ago, or so) a new Sony CRX210A1 48x12x48
drive. After rebates it comes to sixty bucks (US). So far, works great,
but when it spins up to 48x it whines like a jet engine.

It replaced an old Ricoh ATAPI drive (6x read, 2x write) which
still works fine, its just too pokey for words.
