Actually, I found this page, http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ , which seems to be exactly what I'd like to do. Now, I just need to figure out how to make it as easy as possible for my users to do their own recovery should they need to. I'm considering linking their .archive to the hourly.0 snapshot since that would be at most 4 hours old (probably 6 hours, I don't need a 4 hour rotation), and users usually tend to realize their mistake within that time.
