I have 2 windows boxes and want them to connect to my linuz box which
is connected to internet through a adsl modem.
The Linuz box has 2 nics , one for the internet connection (eth0) and 1
(eth1)to the hub where the windows boxes are connected.
I have installed bridge-utils-0.9.5-1 and enabled IP-forwarding and
networking and append the cards in lilo.conf.Also set the DEVICE=eth0
in ifcfg-eth0 file and DEVICE=eth1 in ifcfg-eth1 file.
I have enabled bridge when I compiled the kernel so I can modprobe
bridge and have checked it with lsmod. I have set the 2 cards in
promisc mode and have checked that they are in that mode. When I add
the bridge bro and add the card eth1 and then bring the bride up with
ifconfig br0 up, Internet work on the Linuz maschine. But when I add
the card eth0 and bring the bridge up, I can't access internet no
longer. the showstp command in brctl show that both cards are in
forwarding mode. The ports used is 8001 for eth0 and port 8002 for eth1.
I have also tride to modify the /etc/service file to put aliases on
port 80 (http port) to point to port 8001 and 8002. But it resulted in
that I couldent connect to internet despite when the bride where
removed. I dont think my cards which both are RealTech 8139 is the best
cards for this purpose, but thats what I have.
Any idea of what is wrong and what I have missed?
