I am having a problem sending mail out of the localdomain.

Have you comment the DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp, Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA') line in the 
/etc/mail/sendmail.mc  file.  Compile this file if you have made changes to it with m4 
macro-processor.  To compile :- m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf  and 
restart sendmail service.
