Hey there. It so happens I tried a Sitecom USB 10/100 Ethernet adapter on one of our systems here, as a last ditch effort to transfer some large files, which I otherwise would have to burn to CDs (wasteful). Imaging my surprise when /var/log/messages came up and told me it had detected the Pegasus chipset adapter. I set up eth0 using netconfig and amazingly the thing worked 100% straight away. Linux still never ceases to amaze me with how good it is actually becoming. Granted, it's not like Win2K or XP, where it will automagically start the eth0 and connect me to the network without intervention, but definately close enough. Firstly - what I would do is check your /var/log/dmesg and makes sure your USB host adapter is being detected. If not that is your first obstacle. Secondly - remove and insert the adapter while watching /var/log/messages - check whether the Pegasus adapter is being detected - obstacle #2. Thirdly - run netconfig to set the thing up. Fourthly - run ntsysv and enable networking. Please note that I never needed the 'alias eth0 pegasus' line you describe - it just worked out of the box. I don't think it harms your situation, but for testing purposes you may want to remove it for now. Let us know.
