What is the model number of the machine? i.e. EP 6266 or evo D500. We run all Compaq machines here and never heard of your nic (not that means anything). Most nics by Compaq are intel and require the tlan driver or the eproo (something like that).
Have run 7, 7.1 7.2, 7.3 on Aramda e500 for sometime. check out http://www.linux-laptop.net for your model.
