I had the same problem with my Dell Laptop. My ISDN router was assigning (or my laptop was homesteading) a hostname just like the ones you're getting. I was told everything from "check /this/file/here" (fill in the blank) to "it must be your router".
My router configuration has been examined to the point it's almost memorized and there is no such option as "don't assign hostname". My hostname had been set at installation time and during each boot I saw the message 'setting hostname ....." with the proper hostname being set. I finally fixed the problem by hard coding my IP address. I don't know if this is an option for you or not. It sounds like you have only one computer attached directly to the modem. I know that's not much help but maybe it will help eliminate the "easy" answers. Joebewan On Saturday 06 July 2002 03:46 pm, Bill Johnson wrote: > Hi.
