I had a similar problem when I tried to install 7.3 on a generic server.  My initial issues related to Grub not booting.  I had a single IDE boot drive that wasn't liking the GRUB MBR or something like that.  It just booted to the Grub prompt.  I then tried to force Grub to boot using the manual commands like boot /boot/kernel... This gave the same Panic that you received.  I couldn't figure it out either...so...

I went back into the install and did a low level format of the boot drive including MBR and checked for bad blocks, thinking that there might be some bad blocks in the boot sector.  It took a while to complete the install and format, but when it was complete it booted like a champ and I haven't looked back since.

hope this helps.

Subject: 7.3 on VA Linux (mount: error 6 mounting)

I Installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 on a dual Pentium 3 VA Linux Server. After installation upon reboot I received the following error message:

mount: error 6 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root (/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 304k freed
kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
I do not know what to make of this. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Shane
