No, when I said work out of the box I meant exactly that...I was able to
play Tux, Unreal Tournament, Soldier of Fortune, Quake, etc.  However, the
performance wasn't any where near what the cards could do.  When I added
the Nvidia kernel patch the performance became much more acceptable.
I am using an older TNT2 and a newer GF2 card.  Both of those systems are
now running 7.3 after being upgraded multiple times.  In any case, they
have always worked just not as well as they should without the patches.
