ok - strange things are afoot here... I've not done anything to try to remedy the
problem since posting to the list- but am working on the servers here now and noticed
the troublesome one go unresponsive / very slow - went and checked the console and saw
that gpg was using 95% CPU (it's an old pentium 75 machine :) then saw rhn_check kick
in at 95% CPU usage... thought - interesting - checked /var/log/up2date and found that
up2date was running properly... all on it's own - after me cursing and trying to run
it manually for a week or so now...

d'oh - either it needed a *really* long time to think about stuff or some little elves
stopped by last night and fixed the problem for me?

anyway - all our servers are up2date now and one happy server admin sitting here
thinking he may get the weekend off the way things are going (touch wood)

thanks to the elves for their help... back to our regularly scheduled programming...

- dan.
