This
can be done inside and outside the firewall...it is best to do it inside the
firewall.
You
will need to consult your firewall documentation to open the necessary ports,
namely 53 (DNS), 25 (SMTP) and 110 (POP3).
I
recommend qMail as a sendmail replacement.
