i managed to upgrade to KDE 3.0 on Red Hat 7.2. it wasn't easy. i had to remove almost the entire kde 2.2 because of enormous dependency issues. this was a bit disconcerting to me. with Ximian GNOME i just run red-carpet and BLAM! it's updated. KDE has yet to produce any such device and their upgrade/installs are always a pain in the kiester.
that being said: it seems to be fairly stable. it also seems to me that this, from a user prospective, should not have been made a major release. mostly because the improvements are so subtle. it would seem to me that a major release number would do something a bit more obvious. but then i'm looking at it from a user prospective. konqueror does seem to be a lot more stable. although i've yet to see it handle java period. anyway...if you plan on making this upgrade give yourself a good amount of time.
