I need to become more familiar with databases for a project at work. The clients we work with frequently use Oracle or Informix.
So, in my spare time (ha ha ha), I would like to play around with creating simple databases just to get familiar with the concepts and structure. Is there any free versions of databases that are similiar in concept to the above mentioned Oracle/Informix? Are the open source versions (i.e. Postgres or MySQL) similiar conceptually? (Exact keystroke and syntax doesn't matter; I'm trying to get a more high level view of databases in general, not become an actual DBA or something). Suggestions/Recommendations?
