As another poster has already mentioned, handhelds.org is a good place to start. I personally have managed to successfully install linux onto a Compaq iPaq 3650, using the pixil distribution. I've been meaning to try out familiar and possibly pocketlinux, but haven't had time lately. Compaq is behind handhelds.org, and have agreed to repair any iPaq that you brick during an attempt to install linux on it, but you can't buy one with linux preloaded. Bummer.
