I have a mixed wireless/wired network. I use a D-Link 713 router to connect the network to the broadband feed. That provides the wireless access poiint and three wired ports. I uplink one to the linksys 16 port switch. The 802.11b cards are D-link also. I plugged the pc card into my redhat laptop and booted it, and it worked. No config involved.
I would mess with using a pcmcia card as an access point, this way is so easy and reliable.
