Well, I did try it and it worked for me. I vaguely remember reading that this is not the recommended way to do it (due to lack of elegance is how I read it). It seems that runlevel 5 should work but it just doesn't for me. I get a idfferent login screen and everything... <sigh>
Thanks for your help though. Any other ideas would also be appreciated. For now rc.local seems to work for my configuration....
