... this is only half the truth ... IIRC I had the same problem around March this year ... but on another install (on RedHat 6.1): http://www.prairienet.org/library/redhat/redhat-list/2001/03/msg01727.html [ ... parts of the message snipped ... ] > > To remedy this situation, either place the name 'news' in /etc/hosts, and > point it at 127.0.0.1 (if you don't use news, that is), or have the name > 'news' added back to your default domain. ... it works!! ... thanks a lot, Gordon ... I put 'news' at the end of the line with the default domains in /etc/hosts, and the starts of Netscape are now back to what they were before, i.e. the start-up speed is OK. I also installed new bind-stuff about an hour ago, but to no avail, as it seems ... only after the change in /etc/hosts Netscape started with about the same speed as before in the last months. > Your DNS admin probably removed it, if this is a new problem. ... I'm my own admin here at home, and no, I didn't remove an entry in /etc/hosts ... <shrug> Thanks again, Gordon :) ... I'm glad this browser's OK again .. I need it often.
