Thanks for the tips.  I've already tried your suggestions.  That's what stumped
me.  Well, today I decided to swap out my Linux HD and put my ole Win98 HD in and
see if I had the same problems.  Win98 couldn't print either.  With some further
checking, I found that my scanner was unplugged.  The scanner is on the same
parallel port as the printer.  I got power back to the scanner and tried a print
job.  Viola! It works now.
  Thank you again for the input.  It helps to receive comments and suggestions
from this list.  What I've learned is to keep the pets from under the computer
desk.  They unplugged the scanner.  At least I can blame them without getting any
grief.
