I never had that problem because I only have K6-2, but, I seen alot of
messages and have read that it was attempting to disable CPUID in
Intel's PIII processors.  Since AMD had no plan to insert CPUID (serial
number) inside the chip itself for privacy, Athlons and Durons do not
have CPUID and kernel was attempting to disable the ID when there's none
to turn off.
