I do not see how this will help cloak your IP while IRCing, but to alias type this as
root:
ifconfig eth0:1 123.456.789.123
if you want lots of aliases you can add more with eth0:2 eth0:3 and so on.
where 123.456.789.123 is the new fake IP address you're wanting. Keep in mind that if
you don't use a class C IP address you run the risk of causing harm to a real box out
there on the Internet somewhere, because there would be 2 boxes on the net with the
same IP.
