Uhm, you meant, "Nvidia can't release certain portions of their drivers,
due to copyright issues." You see, portions of Nvidia's drivers use
technology that they do not own, but have licensed. There is quite a
difference. Sure, it would be nice if they'd re-write those portions
of code and release a GPL'd driver, but nobody's going to die if they
don't. Want to have your whiz-bang 3d app run fast on Nvidia? Write
it using OpenGL.
About the only useful feature I can see in the Radeons is the tivo-like
functionality. Of course, you'd either have to watch the shows it
records on your PC, or direct video output from your PC to your TV.
It's not uncommon for a PC to be 100 feet or more away from the TV.
If I want a tivo, I'll buy a tivo (which I have).
Besides, I've always found the picture produced by a Matrox, Nvidia, or
even a 3dfx to be better than the ATI boards.
