dunno about WinME but Win95, unlike NT and '98, require non-encrypted passwords.
So somewhere in you smb.conf you're going to need
encrypt passwords = no
Although you're still going to have to make sure that a valid userid
exists and is known to samba
caveat: there is something called an SMB update for WIn95 which then uses
encrypted passwords, but I dunno nuffin' about that. Yet.
