I am using Linux 6 in my 200MMX computer. I have 14K ext. modem and tried to
connect ot Internet. When I run /usr/sbin/pppd, it gives the message "The
remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couln't find any
suitable secret (password) for it to use todo so" . What does this mean?

Looking forward to hearing from you ASAP.

Warm Regards,
DT

Dear DT, please - always send to the list in plain text only - a lot of
people filter out HTML messages.

Now, if memory serves me correctly - (and it usually doesn't ) this error
pops up when your ISP uses PAP, and you haven't filled in your pap-secrets
file correctly.

The easiest way to set this up is by using LinuxConf to do all this for you,
but if you're feeling adventurous - modify your /etc/ppp/pap-secrets to
include:

<your isp username> ppp0 <your ISP password>

Problems should then dissapear I think.

Regards,
