I don't have the actual error messages handy, but it was to the effect of a 
warning, error rotating logs. I know these two files are affected:

/var/log/lastlog
          /var/log/lastlog.1 is owned by root.root
/var/log/wtmp
         /var/log/wmtmp.1 is also owned by root.root
