I'm running Redhat 7 (2.2.16 kernel) and would very much like to upgrade
to the USB support in 2.4
(I need the USB CF/SM storage media support). I've downloaded 2.4.0,
and have downloaded the
various module upgrades listed in <kernelSrc>/Doc*/Changes. Have
applied a couple of the more
harmless changes (while running 2.2.16), and have observed no problems.
One of the required
changes though, strikes me as not-so-harmless..., namely, the "modutils"
package. Can anybody
tell me if I can apply ALL the upgrades as "required" by 2.4.0 and still
run w/ the 2.2.16 kernel?
What is the exact sequence of events that must take place to
successfully upgrade to the 2.4.x
kernel, and will I still be able to run w/ 2.2.16? I've had no
problems doing kernel config and build,
I'm mainly interested in the steps leading up to the install of the new
kernel.
Thanks! -- John
