I think part of the problem is that is isn't something most people that
have been using any flavor of UNIX think about.  The convention has been
to use all lowercase user names for so long that you don't realy think
about it.

Besides, mixed case user names are not illegal - they just break things
like sendmail.  Personaly, I am glad that e-mail addresses are not case
sensitive - the way some of my friends address their mail, it would
realy cause problems!
