In Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, they are using PPPoE. And it's even
possible to setup up a DSL account on Linux. But this is more difficult.

I used the PPPoE rpm from http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/
Once you have set up the DSL account on Windows, just start
/usr/sbin/adsl-setup on Linux and answer the questions. After that
call adsl-start and you should be connected. 
But first make sure that your Ethernet adapter really works on Linux. If
the DSL package came with a Netgear interface, you can find the device
driver for Linux on the floppy disk.

PS: I would suggest you first upgrade RH5.1 to get all the security holes
fixed.
