Many of you have probably noticed my wholehearted recommendation of Webmin for everyday system administration activities. Someone, last week, asked about a method of being notified when a service goes down. I was just perusing the various options, within Webmin, and I revisited the "Other" tab, and went into the "System and Server Status" item. In this area, there a number of services that can be scheduled for monitoring, and notifications can be emailed. For those with pagers, it is possible to send that email to the pager (or text display on a digital cell phone).
