The SGI's XFS project allows you to run Linux on a filesystem with
64-bit scalability, and therefore no 2 GB limit. On the other hand,
the project is still in beta. I've been running it for a while now
without experiencing any problem, but not on a production server. You
may want to see if you can set up the partition where the dump file will
be saved as XFS, and leave the rest to be ext2.
Just an idea, and I admit that a crazy one at that.
