I too am experiencing this, but I have noticed that when running in run
level 5 if you log out and are sitting at the GDM login screen and shutdown
that my system will power off, but if I tell the computer to shut down while
in an x session or from the log out screen it will not power down. I don't
have a clue what causes this though.
