Hi David,
I should have mentioned that I used the preinstalled RH 6.2.
So I am not certain what needs to be done with self-installed Linux.
However, I am at my office at the moment, so I am able to look at
a preinstalled Linux/Dell machine. The X server is XF86_SVGA,
instead of the special driver on Intel's page, used in concert
with an "agpgart" kernel module.
It looks to me as if that the only kernel level build that needs
to be done is to compile the agpgart module, which is contained in
ftp://download.intel.com/support/graphics/intel810/i810gtt-0.2-4.src.rpm
To install the module, try the command sequence:
% mkdir i810
% rpm2cpio i810gtt-0.2-4.src.rpm | cpio -idm
% tar xzf I810Gtt-0.2.tar.gz
% make
% su
# insmod agpgart.o
Good luck,
