The concept of a global computer network goes back further than
that. Read John Brunner's science fiction novel "Shockwave Rider". That
novel is credited with coining the terms "computer virus" and "computer
worm" and envisioned a world wide network with hackers (he didn't use
that term) and identity theft and multiple personnas long before PCs
came on the scene.
