I had the same problem with my BIOS based boot sector virus protection 
thingie. Turn it off in the BIOS. All a virus really is (to many
scanners) is a change in data. Like BIOS expects it to be one thing and
it's another. Linux on the x86 doesn't use BIOS... so it does as it feels
is right.. but the BIOS knew nothing of this change.
