Wouldn't you agree the message sounds as if the problem is with the CD-ROM
drive?  I mean, what other device can you check to see if it has a disk
inside?  I know, there could be other devices, but in most cases it is
going to be a CD-ROM drive.

Can you check the /dev/cdrom entry in the /etc/fstab file and make sure it
doesn't try to mount it upon boot up?   Especially, make sure that there is
a "noauto" entry for the /dev/cdrom device so it doesn't try to mount it
automatically.  Same thing applies to the /dev/fd0 device (floppy).
