i'll try that as i'm having that issue as well BUT ( and I think it might
have been due to a friends improper shutdown of linux )
in my case now i get the following after the os load most of the like
linuxconf stuff near end of startup:::::
---------------------------------------------------
INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes..

and its repeats about every 5 minutes not allowing system to boot to
desktop.....

it is true I did alterations to many startup files (.Xsessions etc. that
were mentioned at kde site to get kde2 up running alongside kde1) and
possibly since I know little to nothing about the affect of altering these
files properly that something went isn't quite right...........because I
noticed at that site describing how to alter system to run both....that the
author mentioned he wasn't completely sure about the alterations for redhat
i believe.........

any help appreciated
