You may have more than one working Modeline in your /etc/X11/XF86Config
file.  To find a good one for you, make sure that NumLock is on, then
while in X hit ctrl-alt-+ (using the plus sign on the numeric keypad).
This should cycle through the modelines in the config file.  Then just
comment out the Modelines you don't want.  If X gets into trouble and you
want to get out of it, do ctrl-alt-backspace.
