Phil,
On WD web site they have a util that is called diag. It will do a test on the drive,
it has to be run from DOS/ Windows. What you can do is
boot to a WIN 9X disk then run the util. I have not used it in a long time, I did
tech support for them. At one point this was a DOS only util.
So I am not sure how much it has changed, now one note is that it will be Distroy your
DATA. So have anything that is important backuped.
At the end it will give you a 3 digit code. Once you get that code call tech support
and tell them that you have a diag code of XXX and they will
do a replacement on the drive. Also ask them for an ADVANCE replacement, it will
require a CC. They do not charge it until you do not return
the drive.
If the drive is freezing, then I would supect it is bad.
Hope this helps. Sorry I use to know the 800 number. You can get it from the doc's
or their site.
Steven
